The Geek Fest Is Coming To CPCC Levine Campus

Who said being a “geek” isn’t “chic?” The Geek Fest 2006, coming to the CPCC Levine Campus (2800 Campus Ridge Road, Matthews) on Wednesday, September 6 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., highlights the latest in technology and career opportunities. The Geek Fest will feature cutting-edge industry, media, gadgets, hardware, software, services, innovations, education, and much more. CPCC students, staff members and the community are encouraged to attend.

In addition to showcasing many of CPCC’s innovations in technology, the Geek Fest features innovative regional and national businesses and their contributions to new technologies, including the hottest fashions and styles. Activities will include vendor demonstrations, guest speakers, webcasts, video game tournaments, music, contests, FREE stuff and more. Student-focused content and activities will run from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Professional focused content and activities will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

From 1:00-2:00 p.m., keynote speaker Dr. Mark Benno, Education Development Executive with Apple Computer, will address the topic, “The Digital Age: Teaching and Learning for Tomorrow Today.” During his presentation, Benno will address the new set of skills students need to possess for today’s digital workplace.

In addition, The Geek Fest will feature information on various CPCC programs including automotive technology, music, computer programming, simulation and game development, engineering, eLearning, and more. The Futures Institute at CPCC will also play a major role in The Geek Fest. Students can find out more about various career opportunities and explore exciting new developments in technology.

Participants can register to win big prizes including three Apple iPods (up to $350 value), two Macromedia Adobe Studio 8 programs (totaling $999 each), games and software, gift certificates, free CPCC corporate and continuing education courses, shirts, gaming competitions and more.

Major contributors to the event include Apple Computers, Sonic Foundry, Hendrick Motorsports, ESRI, Microsoft, GameStop, Adobe, authorGen, Guitar Center, Vitality Computer, and many more.
