Olympic High Senior Receives Arrowood Association Frankie Graves Technical Scholarship
Scholarship Program Established To Honor Student Attending CPCC
Diego Rojas, a recent graduate of Olympic High School, was named the first recipient of the Arrowood Association Frankie Graves Technical Scholarship. The new scholarship program was established by the Arrowood Association to honor an Olympic High School student planning to attend Central Piedmont Community College and pursue a technical career. The scholarship also honors Frankie Graves, a Career Development Coordinator who recently retired from Olympic High School.
Rojas received the $1,000 scholarship at an Arrowood Association meeting. He plans to attend CPCC in the fall and receive an Associate degree in nursing. Rojas was involved in Health Occupations courses at Olympic and served as a member of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and the Red Cross Club. In addition, he job shadowed at Steele Creek Urgent Care. Rojas graduated with a 3.25 GPA and was inducted into the National Beta Club. In addition to working part-time at Bi-Lo, Rojas volunteers his time as a mentor in the Charlotte Big Brothers-Big Sisters Program, is a member of the Chess Club and is trained as a peer mediator at Olympic. Rojas plans to become a nurse anesthetist.
Central Piedmont Community College is the largest community college in North Carolina, offering 100 degree and certification programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and special interest classes. CPCC is academically, financially and geographically accessible to all citizens of Mecklenburg County. In 2002, the National Alliance of Business named CPCC the Community College of the Year for its response to the workforce and technology needs of local employers and job seekers through innovative educational and training strategies.
