CPCC Hosts Environmental Education Event, “A Vision for the Future,” on October 7
Central Piedmont Community College and its Center for Sustainability are dedicated to supporting the local Charlotte community in sustainability planning and growth. As a result, the College will host a special environmental education event titled, “A Vision for the Future.” Presented by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, the public event will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., in Tate Hall, located in the Overcash Building on CPCC’s Central Campus. CPCC faculty, staff and students will be treated to the same presentation earlier in the day at 11:00 a.m.
As the city of Charlotte grows and expands its footprint, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is charged with maintaining a focus on the expansion and improvement of the county’s recreation system, including its greenways, athletics fields, recreation centers, aquatic facilities, nature centers and more.
To help residents better understand these important issues, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s “A Vision for the Future” seeks to educate community members on its 10-year Master Plan. During the CPCC event, attendees will enjoy free drawings for special offers, engage in a Q&A session and learn more about the initiatives that may directly impact their lives. A panel discussion led by Michael Kirschman and Julie Clark of Mecklenburg County Parks & Recreation, will include:
- A thorough discussion of the little Sugar Creek Greenway plans along Kings Drive and the CPCC campus, including educational opportunities, projects and partnerships
- The importance of green space and nature preserves to the health and well-being of our community, enhancing the outdoor recreational experience among all populations
- What the 10-year Master Plan means for Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s future
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees may park in the CPCC faculty/theatre parking deck, located off of East 4th Street. For more information, please contact Ernie McLaney, program coordinator for CPCC’s Center for Sustainability, at 704.330.6427.
