by Jerri Haigler last modified 2008-08-29 05:30
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) recently named Dr. Linda Dunlap the new Director of Teacher Education Initiatives at the College. CPCC offers a full range of professional development and continuing education opportunities for current teachers, as well as a lateral entry teacher education effort.

As Director of Teacher Education Initiatives, Dunlap will oversee the curriculum and course development of teacher education courses at CPCC. She will work closely with local and state entities including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and the North Carolina Community College System to stay abreast of new programs, certification requirements, and training needs.

Dunlap brings more than 20 years of experience in teacher education training to the College. Prior to joining CPCC, she served as the site coordinator for the Department of Public Instruction at the Division Regional Alternative Licensing Center. She also served as an Associate Professor and Head of the School of Education at Pfeiffer University. In addition, she has served as an elementary principal and classroom teacher. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia, and her Master of Arts in Public School Administration from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. She earned her Doctorate in Education from West Virginia University in Morganton, West Virginia.

“We are excited to have Dr. Dunlap leading our teacher education initiatives at CPCC,” states Gary Nelson, Dean of Instructional Development at CPCC. “As we continue to face a tremendous shortage in teachers, every institution of higher education in this region must be actively involved in teacher education training. Dr. Dunlap’s past experiences will help take our teacher education program to the next level.”
